Well this is definitely different! Creative and engaging, very well written, and although it's possible to understand what's happening with the game dynamics it doesn't undercut Komei's personality or situation which is sad. He's obviously lonely and whatever's going on with the job, it doesn't help.
I haven't actually played the game in any depth so I'm not familiar with most of the challenges except in passing (heard the phrase Legacy but that's about it for example) but I like the way you use them. I'm sure I'm missing things! It's a fourth wall sort of design that really works.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! This update actually started out as a drabble years ago. I decided to make an update out of it, as Komei will be involved in future updates and I wanted to give some background on why that is, how he became the character that he is and why he is siding with my main antagonist. He hasn't had it easy in his life on many fronts, and I think that at least partially explains why he goes the route that he does, even when it's not always justifiable. On the other hand, he isn't completely in the wrong either.
Challenges are fun to play, as they give you a goal to strive for in the long run. Like in a legacy, you aim to get to a set number of generations in one family, and score points for some objectives along they way. I also like it because it nicely sets the scene for some plot if you wish. (Can the family make it, or can something or someone prevent them? Can they agree on how to run the family?) Plot is sometimes overwhelming, but for me it's a part of what keeps me interested.
